Most men choose a cut based on what is trending. It is better to choose it based on the shape of your own legs.
If your thighs are full
Straight or regular. Slim will catch at one point and drag the fabric upward every time you sit down, and you feel that all day. Do not try to get around it by going up two sizes, because the waist ends up loose while the thigh stays just as narrow.
If your legs are lean
Slim works hardest in your favor. Straight tends to leave dead space around the knee, which makes the leg read shorter.
Skinny still makes sense if you genuinely like the silhouette, but it only works with low-profile shoes. Pair it with a chunky sneaker and the proportion goes bottom-heavy immediately.
If you are under 170 cm
Length matters more than cut. Pants that stack on top of the shoe cut the leg visually. An ankle length shows the ankle bone and makes the leg read longer, even in a cut that is not tight.
What does not change
Measure the thigh before you buy. A waist can still be corrected later; a thigh cannot. And if you are stuck between two sizes, go up one.
